Blind Draw Doubles

The blind draw saw 40 people playoff on Friday night with 7 members of Kamloops youth league playing as well. Of the youth players Bryce Book and Kandice Mackenzie came closest to getting off their cards losing in a playoff for the final spot on their sheet. Peggy Mckay and Perry Ritchey faced Mike Lockstead and Dean Martin in the finals. Peggy and Perry recorded wins over Derek Archer and Wilson in the quarters and Todd Strickland and Leslie Donchi in the semi-finals. Mike and Dean got past Heath Hazen and Donna Bisaro in the quarters and Terry Mathers and Mike Cowan in the semi’s. The finals went the distance with Mike Lockstead nailing the final double to seal the victory 2 legs to 1 for Dean and Mike.

Men’s Singles

The men’s singles final saw Dave Roed of Victoria take on Emilien Brochu of Prince George. Dave recorded wins over John Markham, Terry Mathers and then Luben Izov in the semi-finals to advance to the final. Emile got past Derek Archer, Wayne Smith and Royden Lam in the semi-finals to get on stage.

Game 1 was a bit of a feeling out process as both players adjusted to the stage. Dave got off the mark first hitting D5 to go up 1-0. The second game saw Dave pull ahead with scores of 85,140,125 only to miss 3 darts at D4. Emile made him pay with scores of 95,140,95 and a one dart finish on D20. A 180 open the next leg allowed Dave to take a 2-1 lead in the match. Games 4 and 5 were split with both players finding it difficult to score consistently but were  able to manage 1 dart finishes. Scores of 85,100 and 140 in game 6 put Dave ahead 4-2  and only 1 leg from the match. Emile fought back in game 7 with a fine 16 dart effort (134,55,140,42,114,D8) to make it 4-3. Emile continued his fine form but was unable to get a shot as Dave threw an 18 dart leg with a confident 104 finish (18,T18,D16) to take the match 5 games to 3.

Ladies Doubles

The ladies doubles final had Peggy Mckay of Vancouver and her daughter Donna Bisaro of Kelowna up against Kamloops ladies Leslie Donchi and Connie McGonigal. Peggy and Donna advanced after a semi-final win over Joanne Cowan and Sheri Partridge. Leslie and Connie beat Suzie Letrud and Patricia Mavor to make it into the finals. Peggy’s team won the toss to start and took the initiative with some strong early scoring. Leslie and Connie had a nice run of form in the middle of the leg but were left on D20 as Donna took out D4. Game 2 had steady scores throughout, but key shots of 85,81 and 100 allowed Peggy and Donna to take the advantage and break Leslie and Connie’s throw. The third leg saw some tight play and despite back to back 81’s from Connie and Leslie, Peggy took out madhouse (D1) to clinch the match 3 games to 0.

Mixed Doubles

The mixed doubles event had Leslie Donchi and Dean Martin of Kamloops taking on Peggy McKay and John Markham of Vancouver. Leslie and Dean reached the finals after getting past Perry Ritchey and Connie McGonigal then Kent Peterson and Darlene Wood and finally Royden Lam and Suzie Letrud in the semi-finals. John and Peggy advanced through Terry Mathers and Sheri Partridge, Kevin Mack and Donna Krumm, a semi-final victory over Trevor Sharkey and Kristina Gibson got them into the finals. In the final Dean and Leslie took advantage of the lead darts and secured game 1 with Leslie taking out D8 with John and Peggy waiting on a double. The second game saw scores of 85,100 and 99 allow Dean and Leslie to get to the double first. Peggy left John on 160. John shot T20,T20……click on the top of the D20. Dean took it out on the next shot for a critical break of throw. Peggy came out scoring well in the third leg but continued steady scoring and the lead darts proved the difference as Dean hit the winning double for the match 3-0.

Men’s Doubles

The men’s doubles final had Emilien Brochu and Jim Hughson playing Kent Peterson and Ted Menges. Wins over John Gibson/Dean Martin, Hedley McMullan/Kevin Mack and Jim Hooker/John Markham in the semi-finals allowed Emile and Jim to advance to the final. Kent and Ted beat Trevor Sharkey/Rob Keller, Jim Fenwick/Jack Cronin and then in the semi-finals played off against two local Kamloops youth players. Bryce Book and Jared Brown who themselves had some excellent wins over players such as Perry Ritchey/Vince Raj and Derek Archer/Mike Lockstead were unable to get past Kent and Ted who then proceeded to the stage final.

Kent started the first leg strong with scores of 140,135 but missed doubles allowed Jim to take out D20 for a break in throw and a 1-0 lead. Continued solid scoring for Kent and Ted allowed them to break back hitting D5 to square the match. Scores of 100,100,140 and 81 allowed Kent and Ted first shot at a double in game 3 but missed and were punished as Emile took out 54 (14,D20) after scores of 125,121 for yet another break in throw. Another burst of steady scoring from Kent and Ted allowed them first shot at double in game 4 and a quick out on 38 (6,16,D8) tied up the match. No one had yet held their own throw! 3 trips to the oche were required to determine who would throw first in the deciding leg. This time holding the honour proved decisive as Kent and Ted put in scores of 100,140,100 together with and 80 finish by Ted (20,20,D20) to take the match 3-2.

Ladies Singles

Suzie Letrud and Kristina Gibson battled it out in the ladies finals. Suzie made it after victories over Teresa Schultz and Donna Bisaro. Kristina was successful against Peggy McKay and Donna Krumm to earn a place on stage. This best of 7 match started slowly in the first leg but Kristina settled in to hit D12 and took a 1-0 lead. Suzie came back with scores of 100,60,68,59,60 to take the second leg on D10 and tie the match. Steady scoring and a 1 dart finish on D16 allowed Kristina to go up 2-1. Suzie again tied the match using scores of 81,140 and a D20 finish along the way in game 4. Game 5 had both players struggling with their doubles. Suzie took the lead for the first time 3-2 taking out D7 on her third trip to the oche. Kristina gamely came back in game 6 to force a deciding leg going out on 60 (20,D20). The final game again saw steady scoring with Suzie getting the advantage. Missed darts allowed Kristina a shot at D20, but she was unable to capitalize. Suzie walked up and finished 4 (2,D1) for the seventh leg and the match 4-3.
